S2E16: Grounding Practice with Simon Wolff: The Power of Prayer

About this episode:

In this Grounding Practice, Simon Wolff—a politicized healer and ritualist weaving one-to-one and small-group somatic, ancestral, and cultural healing vessels in service to radical care, resilient resistance, and collective liberation—shares with us the power of prayer. Simon’s prayer is a reminder of the deep interconnections that sustain us and the importance of acknowledging and respecting these bonds as part of our journey toward collective healing and liberation.

Full Episode Transcript:

Emily Race-Newmark: . [00:00:00] Welcome to This is How We Care, a podcast where we look at what it means to embody care, not as an individual practice, but a collective one, and to see what kind of world emerges from this place.

Thank you for being here. I am your host, Emily Race.

This grounding practice is a prayer brought to you by Simon Wolff.

You can listen to our full interview over at that separate episode, wherever you tune into our podcast.

If you're able, I invite you to take the next couple of moments to ease yourself into a space of openness and receptivity, perhaps getting into a more comfortable position, putting away other distractions, or even pausing this to find a cozy spot in your environment where you can give yourself the gift of going within.

Simon will set up this [00:01:00] prayer before guiding us through it. We hope you enjoy

Simon Wolff: I'm gonna offer kind of an animist prayer, which is what I start out all of my ancestral healing sessions with, with my clients. And it's just a, prayer that is always so grounding for me and for others, I find, and I invite listeners to take what you like and leave the rest. Let it land however it lands.

I'm gonna take a hand to my heart. You can join me in that if that feels right for you. Totally optional. And if you want, you can close your eyes or keep your eyes open. And just an invitation to bring your awareness inward a little bit.

Just noticing the mood of your body and noticing whatever support you have access to or contact with right now. Giving yourself permission to just kind of land and settle in whatever space you're in. [00:02:00]

Spirit source of this magnificent universe, you of so many names and beyond all names. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the miracle of this aliveness, these bodies, this breath, this day, this moment, and this conversation and bigger work of healing and liberation that we are up to.

To the first peoples of the places where we each are, you whose bodies and bones are the land and whose land is where we find ourselves, where we tend, where we make our homes at this time, we give you such great thanks and respect. May this conversation be in service to collective healing and collective liberation.

And to our more than human kin, you who animate the trees and the waters, [00:03:00] the soils, the rocks, the minerals, the plants, the animals, the elements, and all of the cosmos in this vast web of life of which we are apart. We thank you for being our teachers, our mentors, our way showers as we continue to find our way home to you and home to our own true nature as your kin.

And lastly, to our bright and benevolent wise and loving ancestors, thank you for being at our backs, even when we forget that you're there. Thank you for helping us embody the blessings of you, all of our lineages. And thank you for supporting us as we transmute, wounding into healing, into collective liberation. We invite [00:04:00] you to lean in to help hold this container for this conversation so that it might be the highest good to all of us. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Can you be so, be so.

Emily Race-Newmark: Wow,

Thank you so much.

Simon Wolff: Thank you. you're welcome.

Emily Race-Newmark: what a powerful prayer and offering.

Simon Wolff: Thanks for receiving it. I feel more grounded now.

Emily Race-Newmark: me too. too.

Simon Wolff: Yeah, it just always works.

Emily Race-Newmark: It totally always works. It always works. I'm always present to like, this works and we need to do this more often. Yeah. my gosh.

Thank you for listening and sharing in this experience with us. If you want to hear more from Simon, please head over to that separate interview where this [00:05:00] prayer formed a background for the conversation that we shared together. We hope to see you there.
