S2 E5: Grounding Practice with Mariah Rankine-Landers: An Invitation Into Your Heart Space
About this episode:
In this Grounding Moment, Mariah Rankine-Landers—a leader in pedagogical strategy and co-founder of Studio Pathways—guides us through a grounding practice of altering our heart space by creating a visual collage of elements while being encouraged to draw on the wisdom and support of these energies throughout our day.
The practice is aimed to remind us of the importance of joy and love in our lives and to express gratitude for the people, places, and objects that enrich our experiences.

[00:00:00] Emily Race-Newmark: Welcome to This is How We Care, a podcast where we look at what it means to embody care, not as an individual practice, but a collective one, and to see what kind of world emerges from this place.
[00:00:12] Emily Race-Newmark: Thank you for being here. I am your host, Emily Race.
[00:00:15] Emily Race-Newmark: This grounding practice is brought to you by Mariah Rankine-Landers.

[00:00:31] Emily Race-Newmark: Without further ado, I'll pass the mic over to Mariah, who will guide us through this practice.
[00:00:37] Mariah Rankine-Landers: Part of our work, is this experience or practice of altering altering with an ER and altaring and altering with an AR AR our space, our mind.
[00:00:46] Mariah Rankine-Landers: I'm going to take us through just a little bit of altering with an ER and AR in our heart space today, if you are driving and listening, you're paying attention and being mindful of the road. But if you are at home and in a comfortable space, then I'm going to ask you to rest your eyes and get comfy for moment.
[00:01:06] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And maybe give your body a little shimmy.
[00:01:12] Mariah Rankine-Landers: Find that beautiful breath.
[00:01:20] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And I want you to call upon a person who has loved you into being. Someone that has loved you into the person you are today. All of that person, just see them in your mind's eye. Maybe this is someone you haven't been in touch with for a while, or maybe it's someone you see every day of your life.
[00:02:02] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And like an artist does a collage practice, I want you to actually just envision them as a hologram and collage them onto your heart space. See them resting into that nice, beautiful area of your body.
[00:02:19] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And then I'm going to call you into a place. Where is a place on this planet that you have experienced a very deep belly laugh, that laughter that goes on and on. And you're just in hysterics, laughing and laughing. Maybe you don't even remember what was so funny about you. Just remember the experience of laughing so hard to remember that place is in an outdoor place. Maybe it was your best friend's house. The beach or a walk. Now add that location, view it as a hologram and add that. Collage it into your heart space right next to that person that loved you into being.
[00:03:33] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And then lastly, I'd like you to call on an object that has been with you for a long time and something that you get a lot of joy and pleasure when you look at it. This is probably something you have in your home space, maybe it's something you wear. It might be something that was handed down to you.
[00:04:11] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And again, just take a moment to view it as a hologram and collage it into your heart space. With this altered space in your heart, the invitation here is just to let these energies support you today. Calling on the wisdom found here as often as needed, as a reminder for joy and love in your world. A moment to rest in. We'll always give thanks for the folks, the places, the objects that we've called into this time, giving our love and gratitude for their place inside of our experience.
[00:05:17] Mariah Rankine-Landers: And we'll just take a nice grounding breath here, breathing in, hold, and release, back into a little shimmy.
[00:05:42] Emily Race-Newmark: Thank you for listening. If you want to continue with us on this journey, please check out the full interview with Mariah. You don't want to miss it.
