Emily Race-Newmark: [00:00:00] Welcome to This is How We Care, a podcast where we look at what it means to embody care, not as an individual practice, but a collective one, and to see what kind of world emerges from this place.
Thank you for being here. I am your host, Emily Race.
This grounding practice is a meditation and ritual brought to you by Sara Elise. You can listen to our full interview over at that separate episode wherever you tune into our
allow yourself a couple of minutes now to transition into a space of receptivity, perhaps setting yourself up in a comfortable position, lying down or seated.
Feel free to pause this until you are in a space where you can allow yourself to shut out external distractions. And travel inward.
With that, I'll turn it over to Sara Elise, who will guide us through this [00:01:00] practice.
Sara Elise: Typically when I am feeling ungrounded and it's because I have a lot of energy in my head. Maybe it's because I'm an air sign. I feel very airy and frazzled.
When I need to feel grounded and more present in my body, I do this short thinking meditation or ritual to pull my energy into my body versus being all in my head.
We can start by closing our eyes. Take a deep breath in, pulling in all of the oxygen from all around you. Hold it and release out your mouth, and then continue to breathe on your own as you envision a hole being made at the top of your head. [00:02:00] At the top of your crown and the hole is just widening. Doesn't hurt just an opening at the top of your head. And then imagine someone, it could be another version of you from maybe your child's self, or a version of you from the future, or someone that you love in your life.
I like to imagine a version of me in the future who's caring and nurturing, gathering a bucket of light and holding a bucket of light and walking over to you as you're sitting there with this opening at the top of your crown. And now they're pouring all of this light into the opening in your skull. Imagine all of the light pouring into your brain, filling your head.
And the thing about light is that it eclipses. It eclipses darkness, and not that [00:03:00] darkness is bad, but imagine the light eclipsing any fears or insecurities or any anxiety, any anxious movement that's happening in your mind. Again, not because those things are bad, but just because we're focusing on releasing them right now.
The lights being poured into your head, filling up your head, eclipsing any darkness, eclipsing any fears, insecurities or anxiety, and just imagine it really filling everything. As it's filling your head now, it's completely filled your entire skull, and now it's going down your throat, the light's moving down into your throat, chakra, eclipsing any times that you have difficulty speaking, sharing your voice, communicating your needs, erecting a boundary.
And the light [00:04:00] now is moving through your throat chakra and into your chest cavity. It's filling your heart space and your heart chakra, and it's eclipsing any times that you've had self-doubt or a lack of self-love and care, the lights continuing to fill your body, moving through your body.
It's now going downward into your gut, it's eclipsing any digestive issues, any anxiety that you store in your belly, and the light just continues to be filling your entire body, moving downward into your sacrum. Eclipsing any thoughts of shame or insecurity or hesitancy with regards to your source of power. And then imagine it filling your entire body. It's moving through your legs, your [00:05:00] thighs, going into your ankles, into your feet, into your toes, into your arms, your forearms, your hands, and then feel all of this light in your body. Feel it filling you up. Now you're heavy with light. You don't have any fears, any anxiety, any insecurities.
All you can feel is this light that's filling you to the brim so much that you're about to burst.
Imagine the light now shooting out of your fingertips, shooting out of the tips of your eyelashes, the follicles of hair on your head, and it's shooting out into the world. As you shoot this light out, you're also continuously getting all of this light being poured into you.
It's this never ending abundant cycle that you can continue to recycle and use [00:06:00] as a resource and also as a gift to share with others. Feel this light moving through your body and feel how filled and heavy you are with it, how all of the brain activity that you might have had has now left, and you're left with this filling, heavy, grounded light.
That's your personal power that you can breathe into and share with other people and use for yourself.
Take a deep breath in, hold your breath at the top of your head, and when you exhale, let it all out and you can open your eyes when you're ready.
